what we do
We help businesses manage modern slavery risk in operations and supply chains.
Understanding and managing modern slavery risk enhances your reputation as a responsible business, reduces exposure to costly litigation and builds trust with customers, shareholders and investors.
We work with our clients to assess the level of modern slavery risk in their operations and supply chains and develop practical action plans to manage potential and actual risks.
This portal has been developed by SD Strategies to enable suppliers to complete a Self Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) and securely upload information about the steps they are taking to assess, address and mitigate modern slavery risks in their operations and supply chain.
We assess responses, seek additional information from respondents if required and develop Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) to address identified gaps and strengthen business capability to manage modern slavery risk.
what is modern slavery?
slavery didn’t end two centuries ago - it just adapted to modern times.
Most people know of the notorious Transatlantic slave trade that ‘started’ in the mid-17th Century and ‘ended’ across the British Empire by 1833 (though other countries kept the practice alive until the mid-1880’s) .
Slavery did not end in the 19th century, rather it morphed into new forms (it literally ‘modernised’) and is as insidious and cruel now as it was then.
Slavery has been modernised – from kidnapping, sailing ships, slave markets and chains, though these still occur – to online recruitments ads, airports, false documents and massive debts to recruiters or ‘employers’ which can never be fully repaid.

The intersection of business and human rights is now ‘core business’ - and it’s not going away
Awareness of the impact businesses can have on human rights has been increasing over the last two decades and is gaining momentum globally. Businesses are coming under increasing pressure to be transparent about how they are assessing and addressing risk to people in their operations and extended supply chains.
For many businesses brand is everything and the reputational risk of being associated with modern slavery is enormous. Brand value can be wiped out overnight and the backlash against a company ferocious. Building trust with customers, shareholder, regulators and other stakeholders takes years, but can be lost very quickly.
